"Mike, Lori & Tim, I only learned of your dad's passing yesterday. Your dad left my life way too early, but he remained my Uncle John. I remember his stories about the Navy and turtle soup. When I was young he would do that trick with his thumb making me believe he had removed my nose, and I believed him!! He always put it back. I remember going ice fishing with him and Mike in Cadillac. We stayed in a hotel with an indoor pool!! A first for me. I remember Christmas, softball games, going to see the Pistons in Muskegon, a small cottage at Port Sheldon. I believe our paths crossed one time in the mid-late 70s at a restaurant. He was in his softball uniform, and I was with friends. Dimly lit and smoky, we made eye contact on several occasions, and I think we both thought, "I know him, but I'm not sure." I am sure of this, I missed him and there was a hole in my life. What a joy knowing he is in the presence of the Lord. My sincere condolences. If I'd been in Michigan I'd have been there."

"Dear John & Barb, Thank you for Mentoring Dave & in our marriage all those years ago. You showed us what true love is in marriage. Thank you for all of the dinners together, many fishing trips, & so many "John" stories that our sides were hurting from laughter. John, you were the best of the best. Barb, you are in my prayers & always in my heart. Love You, Mary Molyneux"

" This picture of John is perfect. Looking right at me, alert, full of kindness and all wrapped up in that wonderful smile. John is a special role model to so many on how to do a big job well, have fun and help people at every turn. After work while in tie and coat we stopped by the garden to pick peas for dinner. Naturally at ease because everybody is a friend. Blessed to have your friendship John, we miss and will remember you daily, yours Glenn Dorr"
