John Myaard, age 84 of Holland, was peacefully received into the presence of Jesus Christ Saturday, March 18, 2017.
John is survived by his wife of 36 years, Barbara; children: Mike Myaard, Lori Tanis, Tim (Tracy) Myaard; grandchildren: Tena and Joe Myaard, Joshua (Anna) Tanis, Jordan (Jennifer) Tanis, Tyler (Michelle) Tanis, and JD and Kate Myaard; step-children: Jim Shuck, Susan (Ryan) Huber and Mary (Greg) Van Til; step-grandchildren: Kelsie (Scott) Somero, Kalynn Shuck, Luc and Jessica Drew, Alexandra and Caleb Van Til; also 5 great grandchildren; sisters: Shirley De Braal, Marcia (Bob) Walters; brother Al (Bev) Myaard; brother-in-law Ed Van Dam; several nieces and nephews.
John was predeceased by his parents Herbert and Tena (Beyer) Myaard, his twin sister Nancy, brother-in-law Dale Vermeer and sister-in-law Linda Van Dam.
He graduated from Zeeland High School and Davenport College. John served in the U.S. Navy from 1952-1954 and in 1955 he joined Northwestern Mutual Financial Network where he had a very successful career both as a financial agent and as a financial representative and advisor.
In 1970-1971 he was President of the District Agents Association and in 1986 he served as President for the General Agents Association. He was a member of the Davenport College Foundation Board of Trustees and in 1991 John was presented the Distinguished Alumni Award. He was also for many years the Treasurer and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Words of Hope, the radio broadcasting arm of the Reformed Church. John was also a man of faith, who was very supportive at Christ Memorial Church in Holland.
A special thank you to all the staff at Freedom Village who lovingly and compassionately cared for John and his family for the six and a half years he lived there.
There will be a time of visitation from 2-4 an 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at Yntema Funeral Home, 251 South State Street, Zeeland. The funeral service for John will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 23, 2017 in the sanctuary at Christ Memorial Church, 595 Graafscahp Road, Holland (please use entrances B & C). The Reverends David Bast and Bill Boersma will officiate. Interment will be in Forest Grove Cemetery.
