Betty (Brandau) Hendricks-Hoffman, 98, died on Sunday, January 7, 2018 at Glenn Arbor Hospice with her family at her side.

She was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan July 18, 1920 to Christian and Jennie (Oudersluys) Brandau. Betty graduated from Creston High School in Grand Rapids with honors. She worked as Timekeeper for Keeler Brass Co. She moved to Kalamazoo in 1955 where she worked as a bookkeeper for Wedel's Garden Center. Betty married Richard Hendricks August 23rd, 1940. In 1960 they moved to Battle Creek and purchased Hendricks House of Color Wallpaper & Paint Store downtown.

Richard died in 1974. She married Ed Hoffman in 1978. Ed died in 1999. Surviving are her children, Judith (Melvin) VandenHeuvel of Battle Creek, James (Joyce) Hendricks of Kalamazoo, Daniel (Janis) Hendricks of Mishawaka, Indiana, and Bob (Bobalee Rethard) Hendricks of Kalamazoo; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; stepchildren, James (Joan) Hoffman of Battle Creek, Janice Hoffman of Lakeland, Florida, JoAnne Jacob of Hartsel, Colorado; a daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Hoffman of Battle Creek; six step-grandchildren, 12 step great-grandchildren; and two step great great-grandchildren. In addition to her two husbands, Betty was also preceded in death by a stepson, Jack Hoffman; her parents; two brothers, Edwin and Frederick Brandau and two sisters, Helen Brandau and Mildred Bergsman.

Betty enjoyed spending time with her all her family and especially in large groups. She also loved Covenant Hope Church and her church family. Betty enjoyed exercising and playing Bridge at the Kool Family Center.

Friends will be received 1:00-3:30 p.m. Thursday at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home, where funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, January 11, 2018. Interment will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in memory of Betty may be made to Covenant Hope Church or through the Battle Creek Community Foundation for the Kool Family Community Center. Personal messages for the family may be placed at www.farleyestesdowdle.com.
