Caroline Kanis, age 9, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, March 18, 2017.
Caroline was innocent and pure— drawn to all things good. She possessed a temperament of ineffable sweetness, such that we began to call her "Peach". A year ago, we learned that Peach had a rare tumor on her brain stem called DIPG. Inoperable and aggressive, these tumors end in death, in the process causing their victims to gradually lose all function. Peach forbade us to cry under penalty of a $.25 fine; she was not afraid, never complained, and declared, "we must never be angry, and we must never have regrets." She had gone blind in one eye and deaf in one ear and never mentioned it. With broken hearts we do not say goodbye, but "see you soon."
She is preceded by her great-grandmothers, Elizabeth Huizenga, Della Rogers; grandfather Glen Ledbetter; and great-grandfather, Cread Sells.
She is survived by her parents Michael & Tina; brothers, Grayson, Christian, and Noah; grandparents, Herman & Sue Kanis and Betty Ledbetter; aunts and uncles, SallyJo Morris, April Smith, Julie & Brian Lundeen; and great-grandmother, Madeline Sells.
Visitation is 2:00-6:00 pm, Thursday, March 23 at Langeland Sterenberg Funeral Home, 315 East 16th Street, Holland, MI 49423. Funeral services are 10:00 am, Friday, March 24 at Central Wesleyan Church, 446 West 40th St., Holland, MI, 49423.
Burial to be in Pilgrim Home Cemetery.
