In loving memory of Mrs. Gladys Crosby, 87, who passed away Friday, March 17, 2017. She was born in Blind River, Ontario Canada to William and Ellen (Johnson) Nyman and one of 9 children. She spent her childhood and teenage years working with her family in logging camps and also helping her father and brothers with their commercial fishing business. When she was 19 she came to the U.S., moved to various places, before working at the Trading Post Bar & Resort, Moran, MI. It was there she met Raymond, her future husband, when he stopped in to fill two-10 gallon cream cans of water needed for their deer camp. She often said, the moment Ray walked through the door, he was the man she was going to marry… and they did on August 28, 1954 in Petoskey, MI. Gladys will be greatly missed by her children, Debbie (Kirk) Seabolt, Fran (Bob) Evans, Chris (Laura) Crosby and Matt (Katelynn) Crosby, 11 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Gladys was a remarkable wife, mother and grandmother. Her husband, Ray worked a full time job but they also farmed and she was very involved, especially with the asparagus harvest. Every August, for two-weeks, she took her family to Canada where she grew up so they could spend time with their relatives on the shores of Georgian Bay. It became the highlight of their lives. Every August, even as she aged, her children made sure she continued to make the annual trip to Canada. Gladys enjoyed canning, reading cookbooks, playing cards and visiting with friends and neighbors that always stopped by. But most of all she enjoyed being with Ray, her children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Ray, August 30, 1997 and grandson, Remington, March 11, 2014, and her siblings, Harold, Clarence and Edith. The funeral service for Mrs. Crosby is Thursday, Twelve Noon, March 23 with visitation one hour prior at Elbridge Community Church, 2370 N 136th Ave, Hart, MI 49420. Memorial Contributions can be made to the Crystal Valley Care Fund, PO Box 451, Hart, MI 49420.
