Herald R. Rood, Sr., age 72, of Shelby, passed away Friday, March 17, 2017 at home. He was born April 9, 1944 in Casnovia to Glen and Luella (Shue) Rood. He married Sharon on February 25, 1967 in Muskegon and later he married Marie in 1986. Herald was a truck driver for Fenton's and later worked as a fork lift driver for Shaw Walker (Knoll) in Muskegon. He loved tractors, traveling to the Upper Peninsula and camping in his big red truck. He also loved to go to the Little River Casino. His constant companion was Cuddles the cat. He is survived by his companion and caretaker, Sharon Rood; children, Herald Rood, Jr., Patty Hern and Jodi (Chad) Rood; stepdaughter, Joni Rood; grandchildren, Eric (Kasey) Rood, Zane (Caity) Hern, Zack (Shelby) Hern, Stephanie (Doug) Whitener, Jared Hern, Emily Rood, Preston Nelson, Peyton Nelson, Tracy Jobbins and Koralyn Rood; great-grandson, Doug Whitener; brothers, Glen F. "Spike" (Virginia) Rood, Dale Rood and Randy (Donna) Rood; and one niece and four nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Richard Rood. Visitation will be held Saturday, March 25 beginning at 10 am until the funeral service at Noon at Harris Funeral Home in Shelby. A luncheon will follow at the funeral home. Interment will be in Mears Cemetery in the spring.
