Mitchell E. "Mitch" Babcock, age 81, of Whitehall, passed away Sunday, April 16, 2017 in Whitehall. He was born October 22, 1935 in Pleasanton Township, Manistee County to Chester and Edna (Clements) Babcock. Mitchell was raised in Bear Lake and graduated from Bear Lake High School. He married Judith L. Gendron on July 1, 1955. They moved to Caro, Michigan where he was a fire officer in the fire section for the State of Michigan. Mitchell became a conservation officer for the state in 1966. He started in Muskegon County, and also worked in Newaygo and Mason Counties. He retired as a Sergeant and moved to Whitehall. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and enjoyed volunteering at church and Love, INC. Mitch was also a member of the Whitehall-Montague Lions Club. Mitchell is survived by his wife, Judith; his children, Debra (David) Gersten, Alan Babcock, Gail (Mark) Thomsen, Karen (Jolene Miller) Babcock, Renee (Leah) Babcock-Wolf, and Mary (Shawn) O'Brien; grandchildren, Sarah Romine, Michael Gersten, Heather Babcock, Jarrett Babcock, Tisa (Mike) Johnson, Lanny (Steve) Tygrett, Sadie Ary, Hannah Thomsen, Anna Babcock, Katja Babcock, Emerald O'Brien, Catherine O'Brien and Jago O'Brien; great-granddaughter, Ella Nardini; brother, Clayton (Phyllis) Babcock; sisters-in-law, Marge Babcock and Tommy Babcock. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Edward, Justus, Chester and Dennis Babcock; and sisters, Helen Myers, Hazel Harold, June Myers, Erma Kessler and Alta Harold. Visitation is Saturday, April 22nd, beginning at 10 am, followed by the Memorial Mass at 11 am, both at St. James Catholic Church, 5149 Dowling Street, Montague with Father Peter Omogo as Celebrant. Memorials to the Whitehall-Montague Lions Club or Love, INC are appreciated. You may leave a message for the family at
