Otto Skoppek passed away just shy of his 102nd birthday. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Else. He is survived by his son Jurgen of Lansing, MI. Otto was born in Treuburg, East Prussia in 1915, and grew up on a farm with his five brothers and sisters. He served in World War II under General Erwin Rommel and after being captured by American Forces in Africa, Otto fell in love with the United States as a prisoner of war in Texas. Upon return to Germany, he married Else Buurghardt in 1948. Their son Jurgen was born in 1953. After he and his family immigrated to Michigan in 1957, Otto worked at midwest auto distributorships for both Volkswagen and Mazda. Despite the sadness of losing all three of his brothers in World War II and seeing most of his family trapped in East Germany, Otto always focused on the positive things in life. He was a passionate hunter and fisherman, painter and musician. He traveled the world. Life for Otto was always "Wonderful". His sunny disposition will be missed by many, but memories of Otto's infectious spirit will long be treasured. Memorial Service will be held at Breton Ridge-Chapel, Thursday December 21st, at 11 a.m.
