Virgil L. Warner, 94, of Zeeland, formerly of South Holland, Illinois, passed away Sunday, February 12, 2017.
Virgil was born in Pella, Iowa, on December 8, 1922, to Lloyd and Jeanette (Doedyns) Warner. After finishing high school Virgil starting working and later married Genevieve Van Milligan. Virgil and Genevieve raised their family in South Holland, Illinois. They were members of Bethany Christian Reformed Church and later the Protestant Reformed Church of South Holland. Virgil worked for the Swenson Division of the Whiting Corporation prior to his retirement. In 1996, they moved to Zeeland, Michigan, and became members of First Protestant Reformed Church of Holland. They were active volunteers in the Golden-Agers of the Salvation Army, Michigan Woodcarvers, and the Zeeland Historical Society.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Genevieve, their children: Virginia and Rev. Stephen Steenstra of Sun City, AZ, Beverly and Paul Neerhof of Milwaukee, Jack and Kim Warner of Zeeland, Barry and Mary Warner of Dyer, IN; grandchildren: Philip and Kate Steenstra, Joel and Leanne Steenstra, Rebecca and Chris Walls, Paula and Chris Naranjo, Carissa and Mike Houim, Julie and Ron Thenn, Michael Neerhof, Chad and Kelly Warner, Kevin and Danielle Warner, Justin Warner, Jayna and Will Streiff, Kara Warner, Kristin and Jeff Griffoen, Rachel and Jared Van Baren, David Warner, Lauren and Ben Feenstra, Kelly and Nick Lubbers; 21 great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law Delores Van Milligan, Phyllis Van Milligan.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, February 17, 2017, at First Protestant Reformed Church of Holland, 3641 104th Ave., Zeeland 49464.
Visitation is 5-8 pm, Thursday, at the Yntema Funeral Home, 251 S. State Street, Zeeland MI 49464. Private interment will be in Zeeland Cemetery.
