Bernard "Bernie" L. Holcomb, 78, of Bellevue, died May 31, 2012 at McLearen Greater Lansing Hospital. He was born February 20, 1934 the son of Lawrence and Doris (Crawley) Holcomb in Dowling, Michigan. Bernie proudly served his country in the US Navy upon graduation from Bellevue High School. He continued his on the job training as an electrician and also worked at the VA Hospital in Battle Creek as an elevator mechanic. He was a family man who spent time riding Harleys, working on tractors, and woodworking projects. Bernie was a friend to everyone he met. He was the chairman and founder of the Bellevue Antique Tractor Show. Bernie spent time on the Bellevue Village Council. Mostly he cherished being around family, which usually involved eating to some extent. Bernie is survived by his wife Phyllis (Fagan) of 29 years; sons, Brian (Betty) of Battle Creek, Jeff (Georgia) of Bellevue, Greg (Laura) of St. Petersburg, FL; daughter, Deanna (Orlando) Franco of Odessa, TX; stepdaughters, Cindy (Victor) Ballard of Bellevue, Juli (Dave) Tapscott of Elizabeth, CO; 14 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Bernita Smith and nephew, Douglas Smith. The family will receive friends from 2 until 4:00 p.m. and 6 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 5. 2012 at Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue. Services, Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue, officiated by Rev. Jim Carey of Custer Chapel. Interment followed at Fort Custer National Cemetery. Memorial donations may go to Bellevue Antique Tractor Show (c/o Hastings City Bank, 111 E. Capital Ave, Bellevue, MI 49021).
