Danny's life began on September 17, 1939 in Dowagiac, the son of Orrin and Mary Louise (Bower) Merwin. He was a graduate of Dowagiac Central High School. Danny served his country in the United States Navy from 1957 until 1961. He was united in marriage to the former Claudette Dudley on July 12, 1962 in Dowagiac. Danny was a welder for 39 years at Commercial Welding. He loved to fish and hunt and to spend time with friends and family. Danny was a regular at "community discussion" time at McDonald's where the group would solve the world's problems. He enjoyed going to area stock car races and attending local steam engine shows. His loving family includes his wife of 50 years, Claudette Merwin of Dowagiac, children Derrick (Marci) Merwin of Union, Beth (Jason) Bowers of Dowagiac, William ( Roni) Merwin of Dowagiac and Danette (Larry) Merwin of Tyner, IN, grandchildren Cherrell and Crystal Merwin of Dowagiac, Savannah, Christine and Amber Gonder of South Bend, and Torry Merwin of Dowagiac, great grandson Dylan Merwin of Dowagiac, brother Bill (Judy) Merwin of Dowagiac, sisters Nancy Hudson of Florida, Celia Harrington and Jane Ferrier, both of Dowagiac. Danny passed away on Monday July 30, 2012 at Lakeland Hospital in Niles. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Marie Merwin and brothers Tom and David Merwin. Private graveside services will be held at a late date. Memorial contributions in his name may be directed to the family in care of Claudette Merwin. Yazel and Clark Chapel is serving the family.
