Gregory Paul Burrett, 51, of East Leroy, died July 10, 2012 at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo. He was born December 1, 1960, the son of Larry and Margaret "Peggy" (Harvey) Burrett in Battle Creek. Gregory graduated from Climax High School and received an Associate Degree from Kellogg Community College. He worked for the city of Battle Creek in the Water Department and also as a reserve officer for the Calhoun County Sherriff Department. Gregory also served as a marine officer and taught both boating safety and hunting safety classes. He married Michelle Bonnell on August 1, 1987, she survives. He is also survived by his daughters, Rhiannon (Jon) Oldfied of Arizona, Heather Walmer of Battle Creek; son, Matthew Burrett of East Leroy; two grandchildren, Jeramiah Lee Walmer and Isabella Grace Oldfield; brothers, James (Kathy) Burrett of New Mexico, Stephen Burrett of Battle Creek; and sister, Helen (Steve) Hill of Bellevue. He was preceded in death by his parents, Larry and Margaret Burrett; and son Michael Burrett. Gregory was a reserve officer for 20 years with the Calhoun County Sheriff Department. He was a former volunteer fireman for Leroy Township and a marine officer with the Calhoun County Sherriff Department. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing guitar and drums and trips to Canada. Greg was an outdoorsman, cook, musician, and photographer. He was also a heavy-equipment operator, great handyman and creative inventor. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 until 9:00 p.m., Thursday, July 12, 2012 at Shaw Funeral Home. Services will take place 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 13, 2012 at Birchwood United Methodist Church with Rev. Bruce Kintigh officiating. Interment, Morgan Cemetery. Memorial donations may go to the Calhoun County Sheriff Department Hunter/Boater Safety Program. The family is being served by Shaw Funeral Home. www.shawfuneralhome.com
