Helene H. Hutchinson, 91, of Battle Creek, died Tuesday, January 31, 2012. She was born December 28, 1920, in Sentinel Butte, North Dakota to John and Anne Fosjord. She was the tenth child of thirteen. Helene married Newell E. Hutchinson on June 2, 1941 in Billings, Montana. They lived in Montana, North Dakota and Washington before moving to Michigan in 1973 with their son, Harry. Helene liked children and worked for her niece at Small World Preschool until retiring in 1986. She was known to many children as Grandma Helen. She moved to Billings, Montana to live with her sister, Anna for about 10 years before returning to Battle Creek to live with her daughter, Jeanine. Helene was preceded in death by her husband, Newell; her youngest son, Harry; four brothers and seven sisters. She is survived by her sons, E. Alan (Marilyn) Hutchinson of Ekalaka, Montana, Arnold (Suzanne) Hutchinson of Florence, New Jersey, Les (Linda) Hutchinson of Snohomish, Washington; daughter, Jeanine Hutchinson of Battle Creek; daughter-in-law, Cindy Hutchinson of Cheboygan; 13 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, her sister, Margit Curtsinger of California and many nieces and nephews. Helene was quite an artist. She enjoyed drawing and could draw just about anything. She also liked to sing and harmonize with her children and the children at the preschool. She also was a Sunday school teacher when her children were young. The family will receive friends from 2 until 4:00 p.m. Sunday, February 5, 2012 at Shaw Funeral Home and from 12:00 until 1:00 p.m. Monday, February 6, 2012 where services will take place 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Robert Muirhead officiating. Interment, Hicks Cemetery. Memorial donations may go to American Diabetes Association. The family is being served by Shaw Funeral Home. www.shawfuneralhome.com
