Jeanne A. Serne

Jeanne Ann Serne, 60, of Burlington, died Thursday, February 23, 2012 at home from complications of breast cancer. She was born May 9, 1951, in Detroit to Edward and Gladys (Schuelke) Malek. Jeanne graduated from Redford Union High School and attended Kellogg Community College. She worked for Kellogg Community College for over 20 years. Jeanne married Ronald J. Serne on June 14, 1982. Ronald survives. Also surviving are her sister, Joan (Raynold) Heikkila of East Leroy; nieces, Ann Marie (Ryan) Rogers of Marshall, Amy (Sean) Dugan of East Leroy, Robin (John) Sutton of Pleasantview, Tennessee; best friends, Melinda Zabella, Gloria Heikkila, Carol White, Beckie Gallimore and many others. She was preceded in death by her mother and her father. Jeanne was an avid horsewoman. She enjoyed training horses and riding horses. She also loved scrapbooking, gardening and landscaping. A committal service will take place 1:00 p.m. Monday, February 27, 2012 at Fort Custer National Cemetery. A memorial service will take place at a later date. Memorial donations may go to Humane Society of South Central Michigan (2500 Watkins Road, Battle Creek, MI 49015) or Cancer Center at Bronson Battle Creek (300 North Avenue, Battle Creek, MI 49017).
