Marie C. Poat, 90, of Battle Creek died Thursday, January 12, 2012 at Bronson Battle Creek. She was born February 25, 1922 in Bay Port, Michigan to Glenn and Leila (Waters) Carrington. Marie graduated from Bay Port High School in 1940, received a B.A. from Eastern Michigan University in 1944 and a M.A. from Western Michigan University in 1965. She worked for 34 years for the Battle Creek Public Schools as a teacher, media coordinator and principal at LaMora Park Elementary School. She was a member of Michigan Education Association, National Education Association, State & National Principals Association and State & National Media Association. In addition Marie was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, the church choir and Altar Guild. She was an Athena Award nominee, a Red Cross and Salvation Army volunteer for 25 years and a member of the "Y" for 40 years. Marie is survived by her daughters, Patricia "Patti" (Jeff) Bloss of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Mary (Michael) Reilly, Sara "Salli" (Fritz) Baltutat, all of Battle Creek; grandchildren, Betsey and Brian Bloss; Katie, Ryan, Patrick and Conor Reilly; Brett (Erin), Bethany and Hunter Baltutat and a sister, Jane Zike of Flint. The family will receive friends from 2 until 5:00 p.m. Sunday, January 15, 2012 at Shaw Funeral Home. A memorial service will take place 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 16, 2012 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church with The Rev. Brian Coleman officiating. Memorial donations may go to the Family Y Center (182 Capital Ave. NE, Battle Creek, MI 49017) or St. Thomas Episcopal Church (16 E. Van Buren, Battle Creek, MI 49017).
