Robert Earl Gruhn, age 73, of Marshall died Wednesday evening July 11, 2012 at his home. Mr. Gruhn was born on May 28, 1939 in Cambridge, Massachusetts to Erwin E. and Florence (Coleman) Gruhn. He had been a resident of the Marshall area since 1971 moving here from Battle Creek. Robert was a graduate of Rindge Technical High School, the class of 1957. From 1960 thru 1964, he served in the United States Air Force. Robert had been employed as a Maintenance Man at the Binder Park Golf Course for the City of Battle Creek. He retired in 2001 after 31 years of service. On July 11, 2008, he married the former Linda J. Smith Carro in Battle Creek. Mr. Gruhn was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Marshall, the American Legion Post #298 and the Rindge Alumni Association of Cambridge, Massachusetts. He is survived by his wife, Linda; daughters, Martha (Daryl) Hitchings of Grand Rapids, Patricia (Roger) Austin of Hopkins, Kim (Chris) Hilton of Belding, Dawn (Dennis) Reynolds of Lansing, and Denise (Dave) Petch of Hermitage, TN; son Lance Gruhn of Allegan; step-sons, William Carro of Avon Park, FL, Jonathan Carro of Avon Park, FL and Glenn Gray of Summerset, Mass; 22 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Yagow of St. Elmo, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Louise Courtney; and brothers, Paul and Erwin Gruhn. The family will meet with friends on Wednesday from 11 AM to 12 PM at the Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Marshall. A funeral service to celebrate the gift of his life will be held 12 PM Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at the funeral home with Reverend Roger James officiating. Interment will follow in Ft. Custer National Cemetery at 2 PM. Friends who wish may make memorial contributions to the Marshall Youth Bowling Association or to the American Cancer Society.
